Percussionist Michael Pollock will appear as featured
soloist on the next concert of the Omaha Symphonic Winds (William Hall) on
Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 3:00 in the sanctuary of Bethany Lutheran Church,
Elkhorn, NE. Pollock will perform two movements of Ney Rosauro's Concerto
for Marimba and Wind Ensemble.
Michael Pollock is a multi-faceted percussionist with
experience and proficiency in the many aspects of the percussion world. He has
performed in numerous ensembles including the Omaha Symphony, Pan-American
Steel Band, Johnson County Landmark Jazz Ensemble, Nebraska Wind Symphony,
Pollock/Dusdieker Percussion Duo, Omaha Symphonic Chorus, and Daniel Christian
Band. Currently, Michael plays percussion for the Omaha Symphonic Winds,
directs and performs with the Omaha Percussion Ensemble, is a member of the
pit orchestra for the Omaha Community Playhouse, plays drums with the rock
band Moses Prey, and leads/directs and plays mallets with the Kindred Dyad
percussion duo.
He studied percussion with Nancy Zeltsman, Stefon
Harris, Daniel Moore, Steve Raybine, Jim Drier, Mat Britain, Al Jacobsen, Tomm
Roland, Ken Yoshida and Carlos Figuero. Michael graduated from the University of Iowa in 2004 and earned his
Masters of Music in 2006 at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO) where he
was named the Outstanding Graduate Student for the entire University. He
studied conducting with Don Coffman, Kenneth Thompson, Erica Neidlinger, and
James Saker. Michael is an avid music educator and was recently honoured with
the Jack R. Snider Young Band Director Award by the Nebraska State Bandmasters
Association. In 2007, he was chosen as one of School Band and Orchestra
Magazine's 50 Influential Directors from 50 States. Currently, Michael is
Director of Bands for Papillion LaVista High School in Omaha, NE.
