Concert Band (Robert Parker) attracted a full house on Saturday 7 March when
it performed a special Charity Concert at the personal invitation of the Mayor
of Rushcliffe, Councillor Barrie Cooper.
Staged in the De la Beche Theatre at the British
Geological Survey headquarters in Keyworth, UK, the concert raised about £1,000 for
the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Nottingham University Hospital, which is
the Mayor"s chosen charity. Councillor Cooper aims to raise enough to buy an
Ultrasonic Cardiac Output Monitor (Uscom) 1A FlowTracer, a non-invasive cardiac
output monitor which monitors the heart function of critically ill children.
The
special
guest for the evening was Kinoulton-based oboist Nicola Popplewell, whose
performance included Britten's Six Metamorphoses after Ovid
for unaccompanied oboe, with sections evoking the mythological figures of Pan,
Phaeton, Niobe, Bacchus, Narcissus and Arethusa.
