Despite far from ideal weather conditions,
Nottingham Concert Band (Robert Parker) wooed the crowds on Bank Holiday Monday
in its first appearance on the bandstand in Buxton"s Pavilion Gardens.
The band braved the wind and drew on a diverse
repertoire for the occasion, ranging from the seasonally apt Don’t Rain on My
Parade, Summertime and Over the Rainbow to spirited marches such as Rimmer’s
Slaidburn, Latham"s Brighton Beach and Strauss’ Radetzky Marsch. Contrasting
interludes were provided by Elgar’s Nimrod and Barry Manilow’s Copacabana,
and the performance closed in a rousing style with Philip Sparke’s arrangement
of Land of Hope & Glory and the National Anthem. |
